Social Work as Social Resource Development, Identification, and Referral

Lately, in the United States, social work has become increasingly identified with clinical office visits and psychiatric medication recommendation and follow-up. This is really a long distance from the history of the profession, especially when, in our collective past, there have been well-established differentials between those persons in great and perpetual need versus those experiencing transient needs. Just now, a huge percentage of clinical social work involves extended care of "ambulatory care" persons who are often totally independent in terms of employment and their home lives....all the while, those with severe needs receive little more than verbalized concerns from the heart of our profession, in terms of resource development, research, and social advocacy efforts. Hello WP Social Work - its good to find you. At the risk of sounding desperate, I want to find a WP that can assist with the following articles, and aside from a non-existent WP on youth studies this might be the best location for these. However, I do not want to tag a bunch of articles where they're not wanted... @Sondra.kinsey: That's a rather limited scope of what WPSW should include, don't you think? I would like to understand better what your parameters for assessment were, and whether there is a way to appeal your decision. @Freechild: You're correct that social work is a broad field that could include any articles related to resisting oppression, empowerment, the needs and actions of marginalized populations, and social movements. (See Critical social work) Social Work articles on Wikipedia have a long way to go. If you're looking for assistance, I doubt tagging the pages with the WikiProject Social Work banner is going to help much. Additional Important Youth Topic

Has anyone else working with youth noted a general drop in life skills over the past couple of decades? Many school systems have dropped Family and Consumer Sciences (known previously as home economics) and various shop (or manual arts classes) and as a result very independent-minded youth do not have the required levels of skills that are not only useful, but essential for successful adult life? Social agencies become concerned and have limited programs when youth, totally without parents, reach the age of emancipation--and will leave foster homes, etc. Then there is the completely integrated item of parenting, in that youth exposed to the give and take by their bio mothers and fathers (plus the considerable and varied skills of each) are generally better prepared and are far less likely to experience poverty. The point being when parenting and skill-building is working well, desirable levels of independence can be successfully be attained with LESS institutional or social services involvement. social work stubs

Hi, I'm not particularly involved in social work but am a regular over at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting and have really struggled to find a relevant sorted stub type for a residential home for abused kids. I found {{socialwork-stub}}, but only by starting at Barnardos and going up and down the categories. The stubtype doesn't seem (to me) to be listed in the hierarchy at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/List of stubs, which might explain why not many articles are being tagged with it. I've added it now to the "Miscellaneous" category, between Philosophy and Standardisation (see what they mean by "miscellaneous"!), but perhaps there needs to be a better place in that tree. The category page Category:Social work stubs doesn't list any broader stub categories as its parents, just Category:Social work and Category:Stub categories. PamD (talk) 11:33, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Project review: cleanup and reframe

Hi there, just noticing nothing has been really been updated on this page for years. It seems to me the project would benefit from consolidating - if it is ever to attract any new members - and promoting engagement.

So I am going to be bold make some changes which of course others can undo:

1. from 'How you can help' I will remove "1. Locate pages that need attention, then add them to the tasks list." - nobody has removed a task from the task list in years.
2. reorder the list to prioritise completion of open tasks
3. remove "# work on projects listed." because there are no projects listed, just tasks
4. delete the Articles for assessment because nobody is assessing them and they are too daunting - at this rate they'll never be assessed
5. maybe add a Collapse button and do some general tidy up.

Online Social workers are probably high Facebook users which might account for the exodus away from 2007/8 on (editing information is no fun when you can be the information!) therefore perhaps this project should reframe its objectives from tying to expand to trying to improve articles.SeventhHell (talk) 14:34, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. After a recent request, I added WikiProject Social Work to the list of projects to compile monthly pageview stats for. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Social Work/Popular pages.

The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. Project page issues

• Create the required auto alert coding for the redlinks under How you can help.
• Edit the errors that obstruct viewing content same as the source in Participants. Add hidden info for future editors where to look for the styles used and how to use them.
• Is it possible to create a auto-bot that can welcome when they login and remind Wikipedia:WikiProject Directory/Description/WikiProject Social Work editors who have social work badges about making contributions to the task list or red-links. If so how to do it.
